My Top 10 Places in New York

2018-02-26

New York is one of the best and most populated cities in the world. There are so many things to do and see, especially if you are on tour or you just moved in. Here are my top 10 picks of places to see in New York.

Empire State Building

The Empire State Building is branded as America’s favorite architecture and one of the many iconic places in New York City. On a good day, visitors can see a panoramic view of different cities including New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Massachusetts over the observation decks of the tower. There are two decks – one on the 86th floor and the other on 102nd floor.

Statue of Liberty

If you didn’t know, the Statue of Liberty is a gracious gift given by France to the United States. The statue stands at a magnificent 305 feet or 93 meters high. Visitors can climb up to the crown to see impressive views of Brooklyn. There are guided tours that are offered by Park Rangers to help you make the most of your visit and if you need some language assistance.

Times Square

Times Square is one of the most visited tourist attractions in New York and in the world. The whole feel of the city with its bright lights, commercial establishments, and a flock of visitors make it the world’s entertainment center.

Central Park

You can find Central Park in the center of Manhattan. Its 840 acres of land is home to the Central Park Zoo, Belvedere Castle, and other tourist attractions. If you want to relax or soak your feet on the grass, you can take a walk or just sit in the park. Everywhere you look you can see people on bicycles, visitors on rented rowboats, joggers, skaters, and visitors fishing.

Fifth Avenue

To satisfy your expensive taste for luxury items, Fifth Avenue is the place to be. It is a prime shopping destination located in Midtown Manhattan. You can find designer brands, high-end shops, and reputable department stores between the 49th Street and 60th Street. While museums can be found in 82nd to 105th streets on the Upper East Side including the popular Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum.

Brooklyn Bridge

Brooklyn Bridge is one of the oldest suspension bridges in the world that was built in 1883. The bridge is situated over the East River and connects Manhattan and Brooklyn. You can walk, bike, and drive across this iconic landmark or simply admire the bridge and the New York skyline from the distance.

Grand Central Terminal

The Grand Central Terminal is another must-see tourist attraction in New York City. It is branded as the “loveliest station in the world” and home to the equally famous clock that is made of pearly opal glass. It also hosts special events, exhibitions, and the annual Christmas market.

Rockefeller Center

Rockefeller Center is built by the Rockefeller family and composed of 19 total buildings. The complex offers a peek of some of New York City’s best treasures. It has an observation deck on the top that offers visitors a 360 degrees unobstructed view of New York City. The best time to enjoy a stroll around the center is during Christmas time with an enormous Christmas tree overlooking the Radio City Christmas Spectacular and the skating rink.

September 11 Memorial

In honor of those who lost their lives on the September 11, 2001, attack, the city constructed the National September 11 Memorial. Two bronze panels with engraved names of those who died, stand in the Memorial pools. Visitors to the Memorial can see multimedia presentations, narratives, archives, and artifacts of the attack.

High Line

The High Line is a public park operated and maintained by the Friends of the High Line. The group fought for the park’s preservation and transformation of the rail into a park. Visitors can enjoy different programs and tours every month, and an incredible view of the Hudson River.

The buzzing city of New York is always full of life and activities. It can be overwhelming especially for first-time visitors. This list is just some of the top must-see attractions in New York. You can, of course, explore the rest of the city and enjoy everything that it has to offer by yourself or with your friends.
